What can I expect from our visits?

Free half hour consultation

  • This allows time for you to meet me at my office and ask any questions you may have. It also provides you a chance to introduce your health concerns to me. From this visit we can decide if naturopathic care is right for you.

First visit

  • Includes an in depth discussion of your past, present and future health concerns
  • Physical exams and laboratory testing may be administered where necessary to aid in diagnosis
  • You can expect your first visit to last about one to one and a half hours.

Second visit

  • I will present to you my findings and my proposal for treatment
  • The treatment plan may include either a single approach or a combination of modalities
  • The second visit will be about one hour in length

Follow-up visits

  • Frequency of follow-up visits will depend on the condition we are addressing and the therapies chosen. Usual follow-ups are a half hour to an hour in length.

What kind of training do ND's have?

Naturopathic Doctors have a minimum of seven years post-secondary education. An undergraduate degree with a focus on human sciences is a pre-requisite to acceptance at a Naturopathic school. Naturopathic doctors receive extensive training in basic medical sciences, differential diagnosing and in treatment. The fourth year of the naturopathic training is spent in clinic, providing quality Naturopathic care under the supervision of licensed ND's.

Does OHIP cover naturopathic care?

No, OHIP does not cover Naturopathic care. Most extended insurance policies include Naturopathic Medicine, check with your insurance provider for coverage details.

How are ND's regulated?

In Ontario, ND's are regulated with the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy – Naturopathy. To know if an ND is registered with the board, ask for their registration number. You can then call the board to double check if you would like.

What types of conditions do ND's treat?

Naturopathic Doctors are trained as primary care givers. Therefore, any medical condition is something that an ND could treat. Common conditions are:

  • Acute conditions like colds and flues.
  • Chronic conditions like diabetes, fibromyalgia, depression, cholesterol, blood pressure problems, etc.
  • Women's health concerns like menopause, PMS, pregnancy etc.
  • Men's health issues like impotence, prostate disease etc.

What if I'm already being treated by my MD?

Naturopathic Doctors speak the same language as your MD. Naturopathic Doctors are very willing to work co-operatively with your current health care providers.
